GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: Carlyle in Portland

It’s one thing to offer ordinary food at happy hour (you know typical bar eats), but Carlyle takes it one step further by offering extraordinary food with a happy hour discount.  Can’t top that!  For the more expensive taste you’ll get $3 off a couple pricier menu items like oysters and muscles but not to worry for those looking for something a bit more standard.  If you hadn’t heard, Carlyle’s burger was recently highlighted as Portland’s “Best Burger in Town” by PDX Plate and at happy hour you’ll be happy to give it a try for just $8!

The Burger will pair nicely with any of their happy hour beer and wine, but since you’re saving your dough on the happy hour food, why not give some of their signature cocktails a try.  Bar Manager Jacob Grier crafts beautiful cocktails like this:

Thyme in a Bottle
Thymemade with Bombay Sapphire, Famrigoule thyme liqueur, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice and this:

HoratioHoratiomade with Krogstad aquavit, Cointreau, Fernet-Branca, and orange bitters.

Grier, a recent transplant from Washington, DC, left the nation’s capital and its emerging coffee scene to make you (and Portland) cocktails!  Not only does he bring the experience he acquired running a weekly craft cocktail speakeasy out of his Arlington apartment to the bar but he brings it to his current project: Liquidity Preference…  Why’s this important you might ask?  Liquidity Preference is helping us host a giveaway for a $50 GC to Carlyle!

If the $5 burgers aren’t up your alley Chef Jake Martin makes a wide array of dishes that will, all of which is easily affordable, when it’s FREE!  Entry into our contest is E-A-S-Y and you can enter more than once to up those odds!

GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: Jelly Bar

Kate OpatzOur favorite foodie Kate Opatz takes us along for the ride on her dining adventures:

Jelly Bar is wonderfully dark.  Dark enough, even, to forget how dismal it is outside. It’s separated from Long Provincial restaurant (the new-ish sister restaurant of Tamarind Tree) by a couple of stairs and a glowing tank of jellyfish.

fish tankHappy hour happens daily here, from 4-6.  On Sunday through Thursday it repeats from 10-midnight and on weekends it’s 11-2 am.  To eat a full dinner from the extensive happy hour food menu would be an easy task.  There are spring rolls and noodle soup, chicken wings and a banana blossom salad with soft-shell crab.  Prices vary but are uniformly reasonable.

apps

And the drinks, you ask?  Well, there are deals on those, too.  Any drink made with Stoli, Jack Daniels, or Bacardi is $4.  The wide-ranging house cocktail list isn’t discounted during happy hour, but considering the food prices, you might be able to splurge.

GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: List

innaOur guest blogger, Inna, takes “Snapshots of Seattle” and has taken a snapshot of List’s happy hour for us!

In the mood for half-priced happy hour food in BelltownList it is!

List is a simple and sexy little restaurant in Belltown with one amazing Happy Hour!

I’ve only had a bottle of wine there once, but it was a delicious Italian red.  Something that stood out on my first visit was that they didn’t mind me enjoying the happy hour food (the octopus salad, in fact) without ordering any drinks. One of these days I’ll have to try one of their signature cocktails, however, because I tried a sip of one recently and it was delicious.

The food specials: The cheapest plate during HH is $3 and the most expensive is $7.

I can’t yet speak for all the dishes they serve at List, but the most memorable so far has been the gnocchi with black truffle cream.  I also recommend the white wine clams, grilled octopus salad, and grilled ahi tuna.

Oh, and make sure you stop by the bathroom at some point during your visit.

Two words: Heated seat!

List Happy Hour

Sun-Thur 10pm-12am

Food:
1/2 off food

Drink:
$14 bottle of red or white wine
$3.75 wines by the glass

GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: Oliver's Lounge

Did you know back in ’76 a lawOliver's Interior was repealed enabling peoMayflower Parkple to look through windows into bars from the outside?  Oliver’s Lounge was quick to jump on board, installing 24′ windows.   They did this not just because they wanted to be the 1st bar on the west coast to do so (which they were), but because they genuinely care about their guests and making their time at this luscious lounge as appealing as possible.

One thing that’s helping maintain that appeal is the happy hour, where complimentary apps are the big feature.  Yes I said complimentary, as in FROlivers Complimentary EatsEE.  Get in there, get one of their famous martinis (or award winmartinining cocktails), and get a plate to enjoy all the delicious little bites they have to offer. How many spots in Seattle can honestly say they give ANYTHING away for free now–a-days?  With the economy in the state it’s in, I’m surprised McDonalds hasn’t started charging for ketchup!  And yet… dear sweet Oliver’s stands true with their tall gorgeous windows and their complimentary appetizers at happy hour.  Located adjacent to the  Mayflower Park Hotel lobby, somehow this lounge remains a hidden gem in the backyard that is Downtown Seattle.  A delightful treat.

Just when you thought the free giving spirit was limited to only the happy hour, Oliver’s is stepping up their game!  You know the drill, 3 ways to enter and we’ll draw the winner of a $50 GC to Oliver’s Lounge in the Mayflower Park Hotel at the end of the week!  GOOD LUCK!

Enter to win by:

  1. Following Oliver’s on Twitter
  2. RT’ing any of our tweets about the giveaway

GoTime Goodbyes: The Bit Saloon Closes its Doors??

profileheadshotLisa Rivera, our loyal guest blogger takes us on an investigation of the comings and goings in Ballard:

Not so fast there, partner! Bit Saloon ain’t quite a goner.

Contrary to reports stating otherwise, The Bit Saloon in Ballard did NOT close down this past Halloween weekend.  A call to this Ballard institution Friday night revealed that they plan on staying open, said the on-duty manager, though she couldn’t give a definitive time line as to how much longer that would be.  “It’s between me and the landlord,” she said.

the bit saloon

Read into that whatever you will, but the bottom line, she said, is that The Bit is living to see another Rainier-fueled night. Happy Hour runs everyday from noon to 7p.m., so get over there while you can still revel in one of Seattle’s last genuine dive bars.

GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: The Hi-Life

BarOnce a home to Seattle’s finest fire fighters, the Ballard Firehouse revamped into a lovely little restaurant by the name of The Hi-Life in ’05.  It’s now home to a  happy hour that would make any fire fighter proud.

Bop by on a weekday and your odds are pretty good it’s gonna be happy hour since the specials appear twice each weekday and from 5pm-10pm on Tuesdays.  Thus giving you plenty of opportunity to indulge in their $3 wood-fired pizzas, cubanitos, mac-n-cheese, salads and more.  Wash it down with a cool tap, well drink or house wine, (all just a measly $3 during  happy hour) – and you could walk away with a full on buzz, to compliment your full tummy and your wallet which will still be… you guessed it… full of cash!

ExteriorNot that you’ll need that extra cash if you win our awesome giveaway.  If you hadn’t noticed, GoTime.com recently had a bit of a site makeover.  To help launch the new site and spread the word to Seattle, Hi-Life has been kind enough to donate a $50 Gift Card for us to give away!  There’s a couple ways to get entered to win:

  1. FAN The Hi-Life on GoTime.com
  2. RT any of our tweets about the giveaway
  3. Leave a comment on this post!

Win or lose, be sure to check out the The Hi-Life happy hour!
