GoTime Happy Hour Spotlight: Carlyle in Portland

December 15, 2009 · 26 comments

It’s one thing to offer ordinary food at happy hour (you know typical bar eats), but Carlyle takes it one step further by offering extraordinary food with a happy hour discount.  Can’t top that!  For the more expensive taste you’ll get $3 off a couple pricier menu items like oysters and muscles but not to worry for those looking for something a bit more standard.  If you hadn’t heard, Carlyle’s burger was recently highlighted as Portland’s “Best Burger in Town” by PDX Plate and at happy hour you’ll be happy to give it a try for just $8!

The Burger will pair nicely with any of their happy hour beer and wine, but since you’re saving your dough on the happy hour food, why not give some of their signature cocktails a try.  Bar Manager Jacob Grier crafts beautiful cocktails like this:

Thyme in a Bottle
Thymemade with Bombay Sapphire, Famrigoule thyme liqueur, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice and this:

HoratioHoratiomade with Krogstad aquavit, Cointreau, Fernet-Branca, and orange bitters.

Grier, a recent transplant from Washington, DC, left the nation’s capital and its emerging coffee scene to make you (and Portland) cocktails!  Not only does he bring the experience he acquired running a weekly craft cocktail speakeasy out of his Arlington apartment to the bar but he brings it to his current project: Liquidity Preference…  Why’s this important you might ask?  Liquidity Preference is helping us host a giveaway for a $50 GC to Carlyle!

If the $5 burgers aren’t up your alley Chef Jake Martin makes a wide array of dishes that will, all of which is easily affordable, when it’s FREE!  Entry into our contest is E-A-S-Y and you can enter more than once to up those odds!

It would reek of nepotism if I won this, but I’m entering anyway, if only so I could afford to eat in the Carlyle dining room with all the grown-ups.

Should go again to Carlyle… too bad HH only on weekdays!

I so want to win this contest…Jacob Grier is one of the best bartenders in town!

OMG I love the Carlyle! My fondest wish is that the put their incredible chopped salad on the HH menu. That salad is dreamy.

Pick me! Pick me! I visited Carlyle with my sister on a recent trip to Portland, and I’d love to have an excuse to get back there soon.

Carlyle is one of my favorite spots in PDX. I adore the back patio, the bar area, the space.. it’s amazing. Plus the food is oh so pretty!

I’d like to stalk this Jacob Grier guy legally. Perhaps with a $50 gift card, I could sit and drink while making my patented “crazy eyes” at him while he works. Does anyone know if Carlyle requires a recent bathing session prior to entering their doors? I prefer a bit of the old “man musk” as it is, and its not easy taking a sponge bath in your car in 30 degree weather. One runs the risk of frostbitten testicles if you don’t work quickly enough. But I digress. Please enter me for a chance to win this gift card. Its worth more than the car that I live in now. Do you think I could trade it for meth?

Do I get a date with Jacob if I win? Oh, shhh, don’t tell my hubby.

Tweeted, followed, double commented…Carlyle is that good

mustangshellie December 16, 2009 at 9:57 pm

Best burger in town? I’LL be the judge of that (if I win the $50 prize, that is).

Jennifer December 17, 2009 at 6:26 am

I heart Carlyle.

I’m entering every day to maximize my chances to win! Today I trapped, killed and ate a small squirrel. I wish I knew a good tanner to make me a hat out of the pelt. Hmm, pelt rhymes with belt. I wonder if thats a coincidence or if there is some sort of conspiracy afoot here. I wonder if I could trap a raccoon or a possum here in the city. That might be a more filling meal . I could cook a larger mammal like that directly on the radiator of my hoopty while I drive around looking for meth and trying to avoid the cops, FBI, Shriners and Ronald McDonald. Do they offer tattoos at Carlyle? Maybe I could just get a tattoo of a dead squirrel rather have to eat something. Its not like I have much of an appetite when I’m a-tweaking! OOH! Latkes sound good right now. It is Chanukah and might possibly be Kwanzaa as well. I know it isn’t time for American Idol to start yet.

Jennie December 17, 2009 at 2:01 pm

I’m totally winning this, it was meant for me!

Emily December 17, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Isn’t Carlyle the name of a vampire in Twilight? Yes? Then I must win.

Mark December 17, 2009 at 10:02 pm

One more entry today! Don’t erase me! I need to eat. What day is this?

Cheers! And Happy Holidays to you!

We haven’t erased any comments Mark! Appreciate your enthusiasm, good luck!

Mark December 18, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Quit erasing my comments! Pretending not to erase them just proves that you ARE erasing them. Your mind control tricks will not work on me!

Please add one more entry for me!
