GoTime Event of the Week: Theater Worth Seeing in Seattle
There’s a couple shows going on around town that will be performing this weekend and we think it’s time you explore your theater artsy side and check them out!
Friday a touching performance of “Othello” comes to the Intiman Theater. This show is receiving some pretty rave reviews with the New York Times calling it “…among the most sensitively directed, eloquently designed and impeccably acted productions of a Shakespeare tragedy that the city has seen in years…” This is indeed the last weekend you can catch Othello in Seattle so if you can find a sec to squeeze it in, we encourage you to DO IT! You’ll be done by 10pm with plenty of time to catch a late night lower Queen Anne happy hour.
Saturday explore your mythical alter ego with “Emerald and the Love Song of the Dead Fishermen” at Annex Theater. This performance tells the story of a corporate coffee shop barista (is it set in Seattle??) who goes searching for her dead fisherman father. “Drowned at sea the day she was born, when he walks with the other lost fishermen on a mythic island on The Day of Dead Fishermen, Emerald will have this one chance to meet him and learn more about herself.” It may sound a bit strange but this play promises to employ original sea chanteys and puppets… may be worth checking out! Another play that should be concluding around 10pm so maybe you can make a night of it by catching a happy hour before hand on Capitol Hill?
Sunday answer the question: “How does one “Be Cool”?” when “How to be Cool” comes to ACT Theater in an evening complete with hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and this original comedy “about music, monkeys, and the Culture of Cool.” We think this sounds great and all, but are even more impressed with the fact that ALL proceeds will benefit the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education (GRACE) “whose mission is to provide expert-mediated information on current and emerging cancer management options in order to empower patients, caregivers, and health professionals to become direct partners in cancer care.” Wonderful events for a wonderful cause? You know you can count us in. Finish things off with a delightful late night happy hour on Cap Hill.
Shows like these don’t come around often so get out and take advantage of the awesome theater scene developing in our lovely city!
